Daffodils

Well it's finally spring here in New York and the daffodils are in full bloom. I am so excited this year about all the blooms I'm getting on them. You see, I bought bulbs several years ago- a package of 50 from Costco that only gave me ten blooms. This happened for two years in a row and then I finally did a little research and found out that a little fertilizer (low in nitrogen- I used a 5-5-10) right after they bloom will help set the blooms for the next year. Can you believe it worked!!! My garden advice for the day- fertilize!

  1. Isn't gardening rewarding! Fertilizer?...humm I'll have to try that.:)

Living in Florida tends to make me a lazy gardener. I pick anything that produces colorful blooms and is draught tolerant. It makes me look like I have a green thumb (even though I know I don't).

I'm originally from NY. I'm trying to guess where you're from by looking at your "My town" picture. Is it the north shore of LI? I'm from the south shore.

    Thanks for following my blog.
I'm interested to see where your blog takes you.
    Have a good night!

  2. Art spectrum- thanks for being my first follower. I saw your blog listed on my friend Wendy's facebook page. Love your artwork. Yes, I am on LI, same town as Wendy. Our kids go to same elementary school.

As for the gardening, spring is so much fun here right now. The tulips are just starting and the flowering trees- pears etc. are just stunning. I just picked up my fertilizer for the summer- organic bone meal for the roses and the low nitrogen one for everything else. Definitely do it. It really helps.

I'm just in the beginnings of my blog. Just added a recipe I love. Thanks for your comments.
